The sign for PERSIAN CAT is made up of two parts: (jew i) The first part is the same as the sign for CAT, that is, with one or two hands in the form of F, with the thumb and index finger closing near the lips and the hands moving out to the side away from the face. This movement is repeated twice or more (jew ii) The second part is made with one hand in the shape of closed 5, lying horizontally with palm inwards, and then moving from the top of the forehead down the length of the face.
The sign for KITTEN is the sign for PERSIAN CAT followed by that for BABY or SMALL. The signs for SMALL and BIG are made with both hands in the shape of C facing each other horizontally. The distance between the two hands indicates the relative size of the cat. The sign for PERSIAN CAT is used before the sign for SMALL or BIG.
The plural is formed by adding the sign for MANY after the sign for PERSIAN CAT. A classifier is often used. In this case one or both hands take the shape of curved V. They are placed at various points in the signing space as though several Persian cats were actually being put into that space.
When the noun PERSIAN CAT is used with a verb of movement, the hand in the shape of curved V is used as a classifier and moves accordingly.
